Our staff have been carefully chosen for their skill, dedication and love of children, as well as their qualifications. Staff meet the training requirements for their individual roles as specified by Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). We have a very low staff turnover which ensures continuity, allowing us to form great relationships with the children and their families.
One of the key criteria for staff is that, besides being qualified, they have a genuine rapport with children and are dedicated to their chosen profession.
Staff members bring their own skills to nurture and encourage the children to learn through a balance of free play and adult-led activities.
Our excellent team, some of whom have been with us for over 27 years, is led by a manager who is supported by two deputy managers. Between these three staff they have almost 100 years of combined childcare experience.
We also employ practitioners and support workers. We have a wide staff age range who hold a variety of qualifications including a primary school teacher and former paediatric nurse. Everyone contributes their own personal skills, some being mothers and grandmothers.
Staff are trained to understand and promote each child’s development, making their day fun while learning. Support workers are assisted to obtain SVQ level 2 or NC in childcare, followed by SVQ 3 / HNC to become a practitioner. After gaining practical experience staff are then encouraged to undertake HND / BA Childhood Practice which leads to supervisory and managerial roles. Training is ongoing. We are committed to maintaining and improving standards of care through a programme of continuing professional development for all our staff.
In addition to their qualifications all staff are trained in Paediatric First Aid, Fire Safety, Manual Handling, Child Protection, Elementary Food Hygiene and various other training courses.
The nursery has long established relationships with West Lothian College and the Carousel Training Centre. We provide vocational training opportunities for modern apprentices and full time college students.
